  • Name: Jennifer McCarthy;

  • Project: Small Cats in Sumatra – Indonesia

  • Resume: Indonesia is highest levels of biodiversity in the world, yet is also losing its forests at one of the fastest rates of any country. Unfortunately it now leads the world in the number of threatened and endangered species. The island is home to six felid species, yet only the Sumatran tiger has been fairly well studied and the status of the other species is largely unknown. Jennifer has focused her research on four of those species, the Sunda clouded leopard, the Asiatic golden cat, the marbled cat, and the leopard cat. Through camera trapping, live trapping, and surveys of human-felid conflict, she has worked to elucidate the ecology of these species on Sumatra and promote their conservation in the country.
